Surprising signs you lack vitamin D, doctor's insight
American dietitian and sports nutrition expert Jess Hillard spoke about hidden signs of vitamin D deficiency that are often overlooked, reports Daily Mail.
According to Hillard, lower libido may indicate inadequate nutrition and a lack of sufficient vitamin D in the diet. Other signs include pains in muscles, bones, and/or joints, headaches, fatigue, and tingling in the hands and feet.
The main purpose of vitamin D is to facilitate the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from food in the small intestine. Besides, this vitamin strengthens the immune system and helps reduce the risk of developing certain diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and diabetes.
A deficiency in vitamin D can have a very negative impact on the production of an important hormone for men - testosterone. Apathy, a poor mood, and low energy can also be reasons for poor libido in women.
You can address a vitamin D deficiency through supplements or dietary adjustments, increasing the intake of fish, especially sardines, eggs, and mushrooms.
In spring, you can obtain this vitamin by taking frequent walks in sunny weather.
There is more and more evidence that higher doses of vitamin D ranging from 25 to 50 mcg are necessary for optimal health, especially for the elderly, as the ability to synthesize vitamin D decreases with age.
