Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world, known and loved on every continent. It might seem that the leaders in consumption would be countries associated with coffee production, such as Colombia or Brazil. Marca reveals which country is home to the most devoted coffee lovers.

World's top coffee drinkers

According to the latest data, Finland tops the ranking of coffee consumption per capita. It is here that people drink the most coffee. It is followed by other Scandinavian countries, which are Norway and Iceland.

The top ten also includes:

  • Denmark
  • Netherlands
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Belgium
  • Luxembourg

Despite the continual rise in coffee prices worldwide, consumption in these countries has remained virtually unaffected. The love for this drink has proven stronger than economic factors.

Where does Europe's coffee come from?

The origin of the coffee Europeans drink may also come as a surprise. For example, in Spain, one of Europe's largest countries, the biggest supplier isn't a Latin American nation but Vietnam, followed by Brazil. Together, these two countries account for more than 60% of coffee imports.

The coffee industry continues to grow, creating new jobs and improving conditions for the sector. For instance, in Spain, according to the Spanish Coffee Association (AEC), the number of direct jobs in the industry increased by 2.48% compared to last year.
