Sunak calls on the West to arm Ukrainians to help them 'finish the job'
If international partners provide Ukraine with everything necessary, Ukrainians "will finish the job," according to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Sky News reports.
Speaking at the Conservative Party conference, Sunak stated that Britain was:
- the first country to send Western battle tanks to Ukraine. "Now more than 10 others have followed"
- the first to send long-range weapons - now France and the US have followed
- the first to agree to train Ukrainian pilots, now more than a dozen others have followed.
"I say this to our allies, if we give President Zelenskyy the tools, the Ukrainians will finish the job," Sunak said, finishing his speech in Ukrainian: "Slava Ukraini! (Glory to Ukraine!)"
UK assistance to Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the United Kingdom has consistently supported Ukraine. It was the first to announce the transfer of modern Western tanks and long-range missiles to the Ukrainian military. It also took the lead in training Ukrainian pilots on Western fighter jets. In July, a new package of military assistance for Ukraine was announced.
