Sumy region is one of Russia's priorities, shelling intensifies, Ukrainian military

Today, the Sumy region is one of the priority directions for Russia. Enemy shelling of the region has been intensifying, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Ivan Shevtsov, Head of the Press Service of the 15th Mobile Border Detachment Steel Border.
"The enemy continues to step up its activity. And based on recent statements from Russia, we understand that Sumy region is currently one of the priority directions, as the enemy will try to seize certain territory in Sumy region before the next round of negotiations," Shevtsov said.
Ukrainian military added that the number of shellings in the Sumy region is increasing. At present, the evacuation of civilians from border settlements in the region is ongoing.
Situation in Sumy region
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian President Vladimir Putin may be planning to capture Sumy and the surrounding region in order to create a buffer zone, but carrying out these plans will not be easy.
According to Ivan Tymochko, Head of the Reserve Council of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, the Russian army does not have sufficient forces or resources for a large-scale offensive on the Sumy region. For now, the enemy's operations remain at the level of strategic troop deployment.
Russia also recently launched a missile strike on a shooting range in the Sumy region, resulting in killed and injured victims among Ukrainian soldiers.
