Choosing the right winter sweater is essential for a cozy and stylish wardrobe. You should have at least 3-4 different models as they are a basic item in your winter wardrobe. The most crucial factors when choosing are the fabric's warmth, but also consider the length, neckline variation, and knit pattern.
How to choose the perfect winter sweater and which styles are no longer in fashion, according to the fashion designer Alona Miasoied and personal stylist Olena Shevchenko.
How to choose a sweater for winter
"Choosing the right sweater that is warm, stylish, and doesn't add age or width can be a challenge. Avoid the mistakes listed below," writes the stylist.
Rules for choosing a sweater:
- choose a sweater with a neckline that fits snugly around the neck and is not stretched
- avoid rolling the neckline; let it remain spread in a single layer
- opt for a trendy knit pattern; outdated patterns can make you look older
- prefer dense fabric that holds its shape; avoid thin, saggy sweaters
- the correct length of the sweater matters too. Mid-thigh-length sweaters can shorten your height and add unnecessary volume. Choose either an elongated sweater that reaches the fingertips or a waist-length one

"Sweaters of the wrong length can be tucked in, emphasizing the waist, or paired with any tone bottom, adding structured accessories with sharp angles," explains Miasoed.

What should be the density of the knit material
"There is one nuance that should be paid attention to when choosing a sweater - and that is the integrity of the knit material. I'm not talking about deliberate crochet or intentionally made holes right now. A trendy everyday sweater should have a dense knit and a heavy material. This way, it will look high-quality, beautiful, and be wearable," says personal stylist Olena Shevchenko.
She emphasizes that winter sweaters should not be see-through and thin. The current models are dense. Moreover, such sweaters are warmer.
