Due to a strike by Ukraine's Defense Forces on the Engels airfield, 96 Russian missiles were destroyed. The attack took place on the night of March 20, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

"According to updated information, as a result of the strike by Ukraine’s Defense Forces on the Engels-2 airfield of the Russian Aerospace Forces on March 20, 2025, the enemy lost 96 air-launched cruise missiles, including due to secondary detonation," the statement says.

The General Staff clarified that this number of missiles had been designated for three missile strikes on Ukrainian territories planned for March and April of this year.

Furthermore, strikes on Russian aviation fuel storage sites led to the destruction of significant reserves, negatively impacting the enemy's ability to sustain combat operations.

Strike on Engels airfield

On the night of March 20, explosions sounded in the area of Russia’s Engels airfield in the Saratov region, causing a large fire. The Russians reported the attack.

Online sources claimed that a weapons depot was targeted, and sounds of detonation were heard in the area.

The Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, stated that following the attack on Engels, Russia lost missiles, including Kh-101 air-to-ground cruise missiles.

Sources from RBC-Ukraine reported that the strike on the Russian airfield was an operation conducted by Ukraine's Security Service and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The General Staff confirmed this.

There were online speculations that Ukraine allegedly used its domestically produced Long Neptune missile to strike Engels. However, an aviation expert, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel, suggested that this claim was likely an exaggeration.
