The Ukrainian Navy destroyed eight enemy naval mines near the coast of Odesa, Ukraine, which had been washed ashore by a storm in the Black Sea, according to the Navy's report.

"Since the beginning of the storm near the coast of Odesa, the naval sailors detected 8 drifting anti-ship mines that had been torn off from the positions set by the enemy," the Ukrainian Navy stated.

It is reported that the mines were destroyed promptly, which eliminated the danger to the civilian population and navigation.

The Ukrainian Navy reminds us of the rules for handling unknown objects:

  • Do not approach unknown objects in the water or on the shore;

  • Do not ignore prohibition signs or warnings;

  • If suspicious objects are found, report them immediately to the relevant authorities.

Incidents with naval mines

At the end of August, in the Black Sea near the coast of Odesa, a civilian vessel struck an unidentified explosive device. None of the crew members was injured.

In particular, it was the cargo ship NS PRIDE flying the flag of Belize. Odesa media also reported that a part of a previously downed and unexploded Shahed drone detonated under the vessel.

In addition, on August 10, there were two explosions on the beaches in the Odesa region, resulting in the deaths of three vacationers. It was established that during swimming in the sea, as a result of two explosions of unidentified objects, a woman and two men were killed.

The tragedy occurred in one of the settlements of the Karolino-Buhaz community in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district. The Odesa Regional Military Administration reported that all the victims were killed by explosive objects while swimming in zones prohibited for recreation.
