Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will become Norway's finance minister in the new government, according to a press release from the Munich Security Conference.

Stoltenberg, who is currently the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, has received an offer to take up the post of Norwegian Minister of Finance.

“He will return to his pro-bono position at the helm of the Munich Security Conference once he leaves public service,” the press release said.

Stoltenberg himself said that he was honored to take over the ministry

“Having carefully considered the current challenges we face, I have decided to accept Prime Minister Støre's request to serve as his Minister of Finance. I will return to the Munich Security Conference and to my other responsibilities when my tenure is over. I am grateful for the decision to temporarily release me from my duties while I serve my country once again. I will remain engaged with the MSC and its many activities as much as my new office allows in the meantime,” Stoltenberg said.

Stoltenberg served twice as Prime Minister of Norway - in 2000-2001 and 2005-2013. He also headed NATO for ten years, including Donald Trump's first term. Stoltenberg has a degree in economics and has already served as Norway's Minister of Finance from 1996 to 1997.
