Highest-ranked victory in history
Yulia Starodubtseva (WTA No. 55) produced the biggest upset of the second round, defeating Kazakhstan’s world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in three sets.
This result became the highest-ranked win by a Ukrainian player in the history of the women’s Roland Garros. Previously, the record belonged to Elina Svitolina, who in 2025 defeated world No. 4 Jasmine Paolini. Overall, in the entire history of Ukrainian participation at the French major, this is only the third win over top-5 ranked opponents.
Most notable Ukrainian wins in Paris:
2026: Yulia Starodubtseva – Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan, WTA No. 2) – 3:6, 6:1, 7:6
2025: Elina Svitolina – Jasmine Paolini (Italy, WTA No. 4) – 4:6, 7:6, 6:1
2018: Kateryna Baindl (Kozlova) – Jelena Ostapenko (WTA No. 5) – 7:5, 6:3
Historic milestone in the round of 32
For the first time in history, four Ukrainian tennis players reached the third round of Roland Garros simultaneously. The previous Paris record was set last year, when three Ukrainians reached this stage.
Overall, this is only the second time in Ukrainian tennis history at Grand Slam tournaments that such a large group has reached the round of 32. A similar achievement was recorded only at the 2024 Australian Open.
This year, seven Ukrainian players started in the main draw. Dayana Yastremska, Anhelina Kalinina, and Daria Snihur have already ended their runs in the tournament.
In the third round (round of 32), Ukrainian players will face the following opponents:
Elina Svitolina (WTA No. 7) – Tamara Korpatsch (Germany, WTA 78)
Marta Kostyuk (WTA No. 15) – Viktorija Golubic (Switzerland, WTA 74)
Yulia Starodubtseva (WTA No. 55) – Wang Xiyu (China, WTA 52)
Oleksandra Oliinykova (WTA No. 65) – Diana Shnaider (WTA 47)
Matches of this stage will take place on May 29 and 30.
