British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is likely ready to deploy thousands of British soldiers to Ukraine. They may stay in the country for many years, reports The Times.

According to the media, Starmer is ready to make an indefinite commitment to deploy British troops for “as long as necessary” along with Western allies in an attempt to keep the peace.

The defense ministers of the “coalition of the willing” will meet in London this Thursday to discuss in detail where the peacekeeping forces should be deployed.

About half a dozen countries, including Britain, France, Türkiye, Canada, and Australia, are discussing plans to send up to 30,000 troops to Ukraine. Other countries are ready to help with weapons and logistics.

Peacekeeping mission for Ukraine

France and the United Kingdom are leading the efforts to create and ensure a possible peacekeeping mission for Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. Britain initiated a “coalition of the willing” to gather countries that were ready to join.

According to media reports, Türkiye is also ready to send troops to Ukraine.

Last weekend, a virtual summit of the coalition of the willing took place. At the time, Starmer said that military officials would gather in Britain to discuss the practical aspects of a possible peace agreement on Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Ukraine seeks to expand discussions on the foreign contingent not only on the ground but also in the air and at sea.
