Starlink outage nearly fixed as company explains problem

The Starlink network has nearly fully recovered after the outage. The cause of the incident is now known, according to a post by the company’s Vice President, Michael Nichols, on the social media platform X.
He noted that the outage lasted over two hours due to a failure in internal software services.
“Starlink has now mostly recovered from the network outage, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours. The outage was due to failure of key internal software services that operate the core network,” the post reads.
Michael Nichols also apologized for the temporary outage and emphasized that the company is committed to ensuring high network reliability. He assured that the root cause of the problem will be fully addressed to prevent it from happening again.
What preceded this
On the evening of Thursday, July 24, reports began surfacing about issues with Starlink terminals, including disruptions along the frontline in Ukraine.
The first to report Starlink problems in Ukraine was Robert Brovdi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, who noted that terminals were not working across the entire frontline.
Later, Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, reported that the issue was observed not only in Ukraine but also in several other countries worldwide. Downdetector data also confirmed this.
Meanwhile, Starlink’s website stated that the company was working to identify the cause of the outage and restore service.
Shortly afterward, billionaire and company owner Elon Musk responded, apologizing for the outage and stating that the service would be restored soon.
