Spain to provide Ukraine with record military aid package of over EUR 1.1 billion
Spain is set to provide Ukraine with a military aid package worth €1.129 billion. The aid will be announced during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Madrid, citing El Pais.
Sources indicate that this is an unprecedented figure for Spanish military aid to Ukraine or any other country.
Unlike in previous years, the majority of the materials will not be taken from the armed forces' arsenals but will be specially produced by Spanish industry.
The new aid package will include the delivery of a second batch of Patriot anti-aircraft missiles, which will be added to the half-dozen already delivered in April. In total, the Spanish Ministry of Defense will provide Kyiv with a dozen of these anti-aircraft missiles, capable of intercepting cruise missiles used by Russia to destroy Ukraine's nerve centers and infrastructure.
Additionally, beyond the ten Leopard 2A4 battle tanks delivered last year, 19 more old Leopard 2A4 battle tanks will be provided.
Ukraine is expected to receive the contents of the aid package by June 30.
Spain's support for Ukraine
Spain has been providing significant support to Ukraine since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion, including military, humanitarian, and financial aid.
Recently, it was revealed that Spain would supply Ukraine with ammunition, individual first aid kits, and anti-tank weapons.
Moreover, Spanish media reported that Madrid is preparing to deliver a batch of Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
