Spain to increase Patriot missile deliveries to Ukraine

Spain will continue providing Ukraine with missiles for Patriot air defense systems to help protect its skies from Russian ballistic attacks, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said.
Details of the aid and new agreements
Spain’s foreign minister reaffirmed Madrid’s unwavering support during an informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Ireland.
"We have been doing this for a long time and will continue to do so," Albares emphasized.
His statement comes amid Kyiv’s persistent calls for increased air defense ammunition needed to intercept enemy ballistic missiles.
Albares also assured Ukraine of expanded support during a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
During the talks, the Spanish diplomat confirmed an increase in missile deliveries and reaffirmed Madrid’s commitment to the Anti-Ballistic Missile Coalition, which Spain co-founded in late August.
Air defense modernization and military training
In addition to directly supplying air defense missiles and training Ukrainian technicians with the help of Spanish military specialists, Spain is also working to replenish its own arsenals.
Madrid recently signed a major $1.7 billion contract with US company Raytheon.
The agreement provides for the modernization of existing Patriot systems, some of whose components are manufactured directly in Spain by Sener.
Strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and new developments
Western countries are stepping up efforts to address Ukraine’s air defense needs.
In particular, NATO and the EU are pressuring Spain and Greece to supply Ukraine with Patriot missiles from their substantial stockpiles.
At the same time, Ukraine is expanding its own technological capabilities to counter air attacks.
Following a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an asymmetric response to Russia, as well as the development of new high-speed interceptor drones and low-cost missiles designed to shoot down jet-powered Shahed drones.
