Spain extends Luis de la Fuente contract after 2026 World Cup triumph

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially announced the extension of its cooperation with Spain's national team head coach Luis de la Fuente, according to the organization's press service.
Long-term project and federation's trust
After several weeks of negotiations and approval by the RFEF Board of Directors, the parties agreed to extend the coach's contract until 2032.
Initially, de la Fuente's contract ran until Euro 2028, while an option to extend it through the 2030 World Cup — which Spain will host jointly with Portugal and Morocco — was also under discussion. However, the federation decided to show maximum confidence in the coach by committing to him for several more cycles.
RFEF President Rafael Louzán emphasized the importance of the move: "We are looking for a project that will provide stability and trust. We are talking about the most successful coach in the history of the national team. De la Fuente deserves a long future with the team."
De la Fuente's trophies
Luis de la Fuente took charge of the Spain national team in December 2022, replacing Luis Enrique. Under his leadership, the country's senior team has produced impressive results, winning all three major tournaments it has participated in:
- UEFA Nations League (2023)
- Euro (2024)
- World Cup (2026)
Overall, under de la Fuente, La Furia Roja have played 49 matches, winning 39, drawing seven and suffering just three defeats.
Previously, the specialist also worked successfully with Spain's youth and Olympic teams, winning the U-19 Euros, U-21 Euros, and claiming Olympic silver.
Thanks to the new agreement, the manager has every chance to go down in history as the most successful national team coach in world football.
