South Korea called the statement of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea about the test of a nuclear underwater drone an exaggeration, according to Yonhap.

The office of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol called the DPRK's statements about the test of the Haeil-5-23 submarine nuclear weapons system in the East Sea an exaggeration.

"Taking into account comprehensive analysis so far, we are weighing the possibility that North Korea's claim is exaggerated and fabricated. If tested, it is presumed to be a kind of torpedo, but there is a very slim possibility that it is a nuclear-powered system. There is no case of the development of a small reactor that can be fitted in a torpedo with a diameter of less than 1 meter," the statement said.

The President's Office notes that Pyongyang's statements are very difficult to verify. The maneuvers and activities of the DPRK troops are constantly monitored by the South Korean military and the United States.

Background

The DPRK recently announced that it had tested its submarine nuclear weapons system in protest against the joint military exercises of South Korea, the United States, and Japan that took place this week.

It is noted that the test of attack drones called Haeil-5-23, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, was conducted by the center of the Ministry of Defense in the waters off the east coast of the country.
