Some Democrats want Biden to withdraw from the election - CNN
CNN spoke to more than two dozen current and former Democratic Party officials, donors, and longtime allies of President Joe Biden. Many of these people say the president should quit his campaign. According to some of them, he should announce his withdrawal this week, reports CNN.
Democratic Representative from Texas Lloyd Doggett was the first to voice his position.
"I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson. Under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw. President Biden should do the same," Doggett said in a statement.
There’s a large and increasing group of House Democrats concerned about the president’s candidacy, representing a broad swath of the caucus. We are deeply concerned about his trajectory and his ability to win. We want to give him space to make a decision [to step aside], but we will be increasingly vocal about our concerns if he doesn’t," another House Democrat told CNN on condition of anonymity.
Biden is expected to meet with Democratic governors and congressional leaders on Wednesday, the White House said. The announcement came after CNN reported that some governors had expressed concerns about Biden's performance at the presidential debates. The governors, according to one source, were concerned about making their concerns public for fear that it would make the situation even worse
Current and former Democratic Party officials said they had postponed contacting Biden directly, hoping he would make the decision himself, but ran out of patience.
On the night of June 28, there was a TV debate between Biden and Trump, the main contenders for the presidency. According to experts and opinion polls, Trump won the debate. Biden's performance was so disastrous that there were calls in the US for the Democratic Party to replace the presidential candidate.
Biden admitted that his performance was unsuccessful, but he has no plans to withdraw from the election.
