Slovakia will provide Ukraine with a new package of energy equipment worth 500,000 euros, stated Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha after talks in Košice with his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanár.

"I informed my Slovak colleague about Russia's recent attacks on our energy infrastructure and civilians. And I am grateful for his timely announcement that Slovakia will supply Ukraine with a new €500,000 energy equipment package," Sybiha said.

According to the Foreign Minister, the Slovak side will also allocate 300,000 euros for the construction of shelters in Ukrainian schools in frontline regions on a bilateral basis.

"I also thanked Slovakia for providing recreation and summer vacation for Ukrainian children," the minister added.

Meeting between Ukraine and Slovakia

On Friday, October 17, consultations between the governments of Ukraine and Slovakia began. The talks were held in Košice, Slovakia’s second-largest city.

During the meeting, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico discussed a range of important issues in bilateral cooperation.

Fico stated that his country is ready to discuss the restoration of Russian gas transit through Ukraine.

He also unexpectedly expressed support for Ukraine's bid to join the European Union, while clarifying that he does not support Ukraine's NATO membership.

The Slovak Prime Minister emphasized that "joint talks between the governments of Slovakia and Ukraine are yielding good results," and that the very fact of holding these talks sends an important signal for further cooperation.

In addition to energy, the sides discussed the development of the defense industry, Ukraine's reconstruction, as well as cooperation in agriculture and education.
