Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico suggested a new date and venue for a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. No response has yet been received, according to Fico’s Facebook post.

He mentioned that he had a phone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, discussing the topic of gas supplies. He also expressed concern over Ukraine’s decision to halt Russian gas transit starting January 1, 2025, which he claimed would cause "significant harm to Slovakia and the European Union."

Fico reiterated threats to "take retaliatory measures."

"During the conversation, I also informed that we have been offering to hold a joint meeting with Mr. Zelenskyy on Tuesday evening (January 21 - ed.) in Davos at the World Economic Forum, where we will both be present," the Prime Minister added.

He further stated that the meeting in Davos could potentially determine the future of relations with Ukraine, but "Zelenskyy has not responded to this proposal."

It was also noted that the World Economic Forum President Børge Brende, announced Zelenskyy’s personal participation. The forum will take place from January 20 to 24.

Earlier, Robert Fico had invited Zelenskyy to meet on Slovak territory near the Ukrainian border, offering him to travel by the Kyiv-Košice train. In response, the Ukrainian President invited Fico to a meeting in Kyiv on January 17, but Fico declined.

Today, Zelenskyy hosted Slovak opposition leader Michal Šimečka, to whom he stated that Ukraine is ready to assist Slovakia with energy security, but expects "important signals" in return, such as support for NATO and EU membership.

The current government, led by Fico, opposes Ukraine’s integration into these structures.
