Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico reacted sharply to an article published by Politico, which described his impressions of his personal communication with US President Donald Trump.

Fico categorically rejected the article, calling it "lies of the hateful, pro-Brussels liberal portal."

According to him, the agency is an example of the degradation of the liberal and progressive political and media environment, which, in his opinion, resorts to manipulation, disinformation, and persecution of political opponents.

The Prime Minister says that Politico had spread false information about how he allegedly assessed his meeting with the US President at an informal summit in Brussels.

"No one heard anything, no one saw anything, there are no witnesses, but nothing prevented the POLITICO portal from coming up with lies. It is well known that I am one of the "favourites" of this portal, where sovereignty, the fight for national interests, and one's own opinion are considered crimes," says the Slovak Prime Minister.

According to Fico, he did not speak at this summit and openly criticized both the event itself and its preparation.

The Slovakian head of government also states that during the summit, he did not have any informal conversations with prime ministers or presidents about his visit to the US.

"There was a persistent effort to foil my visit to the U.S., as was the case with my visit to Russia, where some EU member states did not even allow me to fly over their territory! That's what you call solidarity," he says.

Fico notes that he partially shares the political approaches of the US President, but disagrees with some of them.

At the same time, he admits that after his harsh statement on Venezuela, he expected his visit to Washington to be canceled, which did not happen, and this made him appreciate the meeting with the American leader even more.

In conclusion, the Slovak Prime Minister says that Politico's real goal was to try to destroy the constructive relations that Slovakia, according to him, maintains with various regions of the world.

"If I need to express a critical opinion, I don't need any bullhorns to do so," Fico adds.

Background

Recently, Politico, citing sources, wrote that Slovak Prime Minister Fico was shocked by Trump's dangerous psychological state after meeting with him in Mar-a-Lago.

According to journalists, Fico shared his impressions of his personal communication with the US President with EU leaders at last week's summit.

Fico allegedly told them that Trump had gone mad.
