Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced plans for a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It may take place in the coming days, Irozhlas reports.

"We are looking for another date, which should be in the next few days," Fico told a journalist during his visit to eastern Slovakia, without providing further details.

Earlier, Fico had suggested holding a meeting in Slovakia to discuss the restoration of gas transit through Ukraine, and then Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited Fico to come to Kyiv.

What is known about the place of the meeting between Fico and Zelenskyy

The place of a possible meeting between Fico and Zelenskyy has not been named yet.

But, as an informed source told RBC-Ukraine, the Slovak side is considering Davos as a potential venue for such talks. The World Economic Forum starts there on January 20.

Termination of Russian gas transit through Ukraine

Following Ukraine's decision to halt the transit of Russian gas after the expiration of its contract with Russia on January 1, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico sharply criticized the move.

Fico claimed that Slovakia would lose about half a billion euros in revenue from gas transit fees due to Ukraine's decision. He also threatened Ukraine with retaliatory measures, including halting electricity supplies.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Fico of opening a second energy front against Ukraine at the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
