The largest opposition party, Progresívne Slovensko (Progressive Slovakia), is ahead of Prime Minister Robert Fico's Smer-SD party, in opinion polls. The gap between them is slight, this is evidenced by the data from an Ipsos poll, according to aktuality.sk.

According to the poll, Progresívne Slovensko would narrowly win the elections, securing 23% of the votes. Meanwhile, Robert Fico's Smer-SD would garner 22.2% of voter support.

The Hlas (Voice) party, part of the government coalition, would receive just over 11% of the votes. The fourth position would go to the far-right Slovak party Republika (Republic), with 7.7% of the votes.

The poll also indicated that Smer-SD would not be able to form a government majority with Hlas and Republika.

Meanwhile, Progresívne Slovensko, together with other opposition parties, could form a coalition with the Hnutie Slovensko (Movement for Slovakia). In this case, they would secure a narrow majority of 76 votes.

No-confidence vote in Fico's government

Earlier, the Slovak opposition proposed convening an extraordinary parliamentary session to discuss a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Robert Fico's government.

Fico had previously threatened to stop exporting electricity to Ukraine as a response to the suspension of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory.

One of the reasons for this is Fico's visit to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
