Slovak government against border blockade with Ukraine
The State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Slovakia,Denisa Žiláková, assured Ukraine that the government of her country is against the blockade of the border by carriers, according to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Serhiy Derkach.
Derkach noted that he had a phone conversation with Žiláková, and the main topics were the risks of border blockades and the implementation of the Agreement on the liberalization of transport between Ukraine and the EU.
"Slovak colleagues confirmed that they do not support the border blockade, especially when it comes to the only freight checkpoint with Slovakia - 'Uzhgorod - Vyshne Nemecke'... They promise to consult with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Slovakia to prevent such protests," Derkach wrote.
According to the deputy minister, he assured the Slovak colleagues that the liberalization of transportation is a necessary measure.
Background
Earlier, Polish carriers blocked three border crossing points with Ukraine as part of their strike. The main demand was to reinstate the permit system for Ukraine.
After this, Slovak carriers announced that they might join their Polish colleagues. They expressed their intention to block the crossing for Ukrainian carriers from their side of the border.
