Sikorski called US talks on Ukraine a 'push,' pointing to contradictions

Talks between the United States and Russia on Ukraine have given the situation a "push," but at the same time, they contradict the fundamental principles of diplomacy. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated this on TVN24.
"My Ukrainian counterparts say they are grateful to the US for this push in the situation, that their — Americans' — talks with Putin became possible," he said.
However, Sikorski added that "this contradicts the principles of diplomacy."
"According to traditional diplomatic principles, the first step is to establish a confidential communication channel, determine the other party's intentions, then build trust mechanisms, and only after that do leaders endorse an agreement that is nearly finalized," said the Polish foreign minister.
He clarified that US President Donald Trump has his own style, but "Ukrainians say this gives them hope for accelerating certain processes that, they hope, will lead to lasting peace."
"In this way, they are expressing a vote of confidence in Donald Trump," Sikorski added.
Ceasefire in Ukraine
Ukraine and the United States agreed on a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine during negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
After that, the Russian side was also expected to give its approval. Recently, following a meeting with US representatives, Russia put forward several conditions for a ceasefire in Ukraine, including reconnecting Russian banks to the SWIFT system.
