Shooting at US school leaves at least 2 students injured

In the US, at least three minors sustained gunshot wounds in a shooting at Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Colorado, reports CNN.
The first 911 call reporting an active shooter came in at 12:24 p.m. local time. The shooting occurred on the school grounds, outside the building. Authorities are still working to identify potential crime scenes inside the school.
It is currently known that two of the injured with gunshot wounds, as well as a possible shooter, are being treated at the nearby St. Anthony Hospital, hospital CEO Kevin Cullinan said.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department public relations office, Jackie Kelly, said the suspect in the shooting is a minor, likely a high school student. He was also injured and is in critical condition at a local hospital.
Kelly could not specify how the suspect was injured, but noted that law enforcement did not fire any shots. She added that authorities are working to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s home.
Investigators will also question many students who witnessed anything related to the shooting. This is part of their effort to piece together a full account of what happened at the school, which has about 900 students.
CNN notes that this tragedy marks the 47th school shooting in the US since the beginning of this year: 24 occurred on college campuses, and 23 at schools and kindergartens.
Additionally, the Colorado shooting occurred less than an hour after right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University in the West.
Just a few weeks ago, on August 27, a shooting took place at a church at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Two children were killed, and 17 others were injured to varying degrees.
