'She's sort of like me': Trump reveals if wife influences his decisions on Ukraine

US President Donald Trump told reporters that his wife, Melania, does not directly influence his position on the war in Ukraine, but she shares his desire to end the bloodshed.
"She's very smart. She's very neutral. She's sort of like me -- she'd like to see people stop dying," Trump said.
About Melania Trump's views on the war in Ukraine
The first lady, who was born in the former Yugoslavia, regularly reminds her husband of the victims of Russian air strikes on Ukrainian cities.
She maintains close ties with Europe - she and her son Barron have an EU passport and regularly speak Slovenian.
According to journalist and biographer Mary Jordan, Melania's attitude towards Ukraine is quite understandable - she grew up in the former Yugoslavia, where there was traditionally no pro-Russian sentiment.
According to Jordan, Melania has more experience in international politics than some members of the government and is not afraid to express her position. Her 81-year-old father, Viktor Knavs, regularly visits Slovenia, so she is well aware of the political mood in the region.
"Her homeland is fully supportive of Ukraine, and people there are shocked that the US would cut off arms supplies," Jordan says.
Trump's attitude toward Ukraine
Donald Trump has repeatedly made controversial statements regarding the war in Ukraine.
In an audio recording recently released by CNN, the US president allegedly threatened Vladimir Putin to "bomb the sh*t out of Moscow" if he dared to launch a full-scale invasion.
According to journalists, the recording was made during a charity event in 2024, when Trump was already running for president.
The politician also criticized the Russian attack with more than 700 drones and said that thousands of people on both sides are killed every week as a result of the fighting.
When journalists asked Trump if he was going to announce sanctions against Russia, the US president evaded the question, saying that it was necessary to see what would happen next. "I am very disappointed with Putin. I thought he was somebody that meant what he said. And he'll talk so beautifully and then he'll bomb people at night," Trump said.
