Russian forces attacked Lviv with drones early in the morning. A strike drone was intercepted on the outskirts of the city, according to the Air Command West.

“During the night of January 15, Russian aggressors launched a drone attack on western Ukraine. At 6:30 a.m., a Shahed-type attack UAV was hit by mobile fire groups on the outskirts of Lviv,” Air Command West said.

It was also reported that electronic warfare units were used to prevent the drone from reaching its target. Ultimately, the damaged drone crashed in the city's central area.

“Air defense units of Air Command West remain on constant alert and are doing everything possible to repel enemy air attacks,” the military added.

Attack on Lviv on the night of January 15

Earlier, on the morning of January 15, Russia carried out another attempt to strike Ukraine. This time, explosions were heard in Lviv. An air raid alert was announced in the city at 6:09 a.m. Later, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported that an enemy combat drone struck central Lviv.

The mayor also said that Mytropolyta Andreia and Sheptytskoho streets were temporarily closed due to the attack. Private and public transport is currently not operating in the area, and trolleybus routes No. 27, 32, and 38 have been suspended.

In addition, the strike shattered windows in residential buildings and in buildings at Lviv Polytechnic, a school, and a college. A historic landmark was also damaged: stained-glass windows at the Church of Saints Olha and Elizabeth were hit.
