Several Islamic groups implicated in strike on U.S. base in Jordan
According to U.S. intelligence, several Islamist groups are implicated in the attack on an American military base in Jordan, states White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby.
"We believe that the attack in Jordan was planned, resourced, and facilitated by an umbrella group called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which contains multiple groups, including Kataib Hezbollah," stated Kirby.
According to him, these conclusions were drawn from data meticulously collected and analyzed by U.S. intelligence units.
Strike on the U.S. base in Jordan
On January 28, near the northeastern border with Syria, a drone attacked an American military base in Jordan. According to the Pentagon, over 40 American soldiers were injured in this attack.
Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin threatened retaliation for the attack in a convenient place, at a convenient time. President Joe Biden stated that Iran is responsible for this attack and noted that he has already decided on measures in response.
Shortly thereafter, the Iraqi armed group Kataib Hezbollah, supported by Iran, announced the suspension of all its military operations against U.S. forces in the Middle East, ostensibly to prevent escalation after the attack in Jordan.
