Seven suspects arrested in Belgium for alleged terror plot
The Belgian police conducted an anti-terrorist operation in several cities of the country. As a result, law enforcement officers detained seven people suspected of preparing a terrorist attack, according to The Brussels Times.
According to the agency, the Antwerp Federal Judicial Police, following a request from an investigating judge, conducted 14 searches in nine different cities in Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders.
The purpose of the operation was to detain several people suspected of participating in the activities of a terrorist group, financing terrorism and preparing a terrorist attack.
A total of seven people were detained and taken in for questioning. The details of their possible plans have not yet been disclosed.
According to a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, there is currently no known connection between these events and the Olympic Games, which start in Paris on July 26.
Yesterday, on July 24, a Russian citizen was detained in Paris on suspicion of preparing to disrupt the Olympic Games. Evidence of preparations for destabilization during the Olympics was found in his residence.
In March, Germany and France agreed to jointly ensure security at Euro 2024 and the Olympics.
