A shooting, resulting in the death of three migrants and another being injured, occurred today near the Serbian border with Hungary, reports RTS.

The incident occurred this morning, October 27, near the settlement of Horgoš. As specified by the Kikinda Police Department, the shooting took place on the premises of the abandoned agricultural warehouse Bačka in the border zone.

The probable cause is cited as a conflict between two groups of migrants regarding who would pay for the illegal border crossing, which ended in gunfire with casualties and injuries.

Migrants use these empty buildings in the border zone for accommodation in order to illegally cross the Hungarian border at night.

Law enforcement officers blocked the passage towards the scene and reinforced police units in the area. Measures are being taken to search for the criminals.

According to local residents, there may have been gunfire from automatic weapons.

"Although the shooting took place outside the populated town of Horgoš, citizens were alarmed after hearing a prolonged barrage of gunfire," reports the source.

This summer, the Serbian police conducted a special operation near the city of Subotica in the northern part of the country, near the border with Hungary. Law enforcement officers then detained 200 illegal migrants and seized weapons and ammunition.
