Senate majority leader expects House to support aid package to Ukraine
The House of Representatives of the United States of America is likely to support a bill that provides for new financing of $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, says the leader of the Democrats in the US Senate.
He noted that if the bill is brought to a vote, it will be supported by both Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives.
Schumer also urged the lower house of Congress to do the right thing and hold a vote on the bill.
US aid to Ukraine
Last year US President Joe Biden invited Congress to allocate more than 100 billion dollars for aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as the protection of the American border.
Republicans refused to support the initiative. They demanded stricter border protection measures. Thus, aid to Ukraine became dependent on the position of members of the Republican Party.
Recently, the US Senate began considering a bill to help Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan without money for the border. Today, February 13, it was supported by senators.
In order for the bill to take effect, it still needs to pass the House of Representatives and be signed by President Joe Biden.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, has already opposed such an initiative. Thus, he may not submit the bill to the House of Representatives.
