According to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, chairman of the board of Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), the attack occurred on a section of track similar to the one where a drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train earlier in the day, killing the driver and his assistant.
The incident marked the second attack on a train in the Odesa region in a single day. Earlier on August 13, a Russian jet-powered Shahed drone directly hit the locomotive of another passenger train in the same Berezivka district.
The strike hit the driver's cab, killing the train driver and his assistant. A total of 340 passengers were evacuated from the train, including 67 children.
