Scientists have revealed that consuming one popular beverage may help reduce the risk of sudden cardiac arrest, according to The Guardian.

Which alcoholic beverage might be beneficial for the heart?

Researchers found that factors such as increased consumption of champagne and white wine, higher fruit intake, maintaining a positive mood, managing weight, controlling blood pressure, and improving education may serve as important protective factors.

They concluded that between 40% and 63% of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) cases could be prevented by addressing all 56 risk factors.

Their findings were published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.

The researchers studied more than 500,000 people using data from the UK Biobank. Of those tracked, 3,147 individuals experienced SCA (heart disease) during a typical 14-year follow-up period.

The underlying mechanisms remain unclear, but these findings support the idea that the benefits of moderate alcohol consumption may be more complex than previously thought.

The suggestion that champagne and white wine may be beneficial also contradicts current alcohol consumption guidelines.

How to stay healthy

The British Heart Foundation states that lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of developing SCA (sudden cardiac arrest).

These include reducing alcohol consumption, quitting smoking, eating a healthy diet, taking prescribed medication, and receiving medical treatment, as well as staying physically active.
