Scholz spoke out against use of Western weapons on Russian territory
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has stated that he is against the use of weapons supplied to Ukraine for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation, according to NTV.
He emphasized that he currently sees no reason to allow Ukraine to use weapons supplied from Germany on Russian territory.
Scholz stressed that there are clear rules agreed with Ukraine regarding the supply of German weapons, and they are working. He also stated that the goal of his policy towards Ukraine is to prevent this from turning into a major war.
Ukraine requests permission to strike Russia with Western weapons
Due to Russia's renewed offensive in the Kharkiv region, Ukraine has requested permission from its partners to strike Russian territory with Western weapons. This includes the US, France, and Britain, as these countries provide long-range missiles that can be used to strike Russian territory near the Ukrainian border.
In particular, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during his visit to Kyiv, stated that Ukraine has the right to decide how to use American weapons. Similar rhetoric was echoed by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, who believes that Ukraine is free to use British Storm Shadow missiles against targets in Russia.
On May 26, Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson stated that Sweden is also not opposed to Ukraine using Swedish weapons to strike targets in Russian territory.
