Scholz prepared to talk with Putin if he sees right moment
German Chancellor Scholz will not hesitate to hold a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin if he deems the moment appropriate, stated German government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit.
According to him, Scholz has expressed support for accelerating peace efforts to end the war in Ukraine, but the Federal Government currently sees no reason for optimism.
Hebestreit noted that recent Kremlin statements about the war in Ukraine "have not given the impression that they are very willing to engage in constructive peace negotiations." However, Scholz "would not hesitate to have a phone conversation with the Russian President" if he deemed the time "appropriate."
The spokesperson also mentioned that the German government cannot specify a date for the "next peace conference" that Scholz had talked about.
He added that the current global situation is such that everyone feels this war must end as quickly as possible.
Recently, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Germany would do everything possible to support Ukraine. The time has come to discuss how to achieve peace as quickly as possible.
