On Wednesday, June 11, the bodies of 1,212 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine. The Security Service of Ukraine shared exclusive photos and videos from the repatriation ceremony, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

The SBU noted that the fallen defenders were returned as a result of joint efforts by staff members of the Coordination Headquarters on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons, the State Emergency Service, and other structures of Ukraine's security and defense sector.

The SBU also noted the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Bodies of fallen defenders returned to Ukraine

As a reminder, today, June 11, the bodies of 1,212 fallen Ukrainian defenders were returned to Ukraine.

Among those brought back "on the shield" are soldiers who died in:

  • Kursk region (Russia)

  • Kharkiv region

  • Luhansk region

  • Donetsk region

  • Zaporizhzhia region

  • Kherson region

First, the bodies of the servicemen will be handed over to representatives of law enforcement agencies, and forensic medical examination will be done to identify the deceased.
