Russian oligarchs Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman will not return to the EU sanctions list anytime soon, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas says.

She noted that restoring restrictions against the two oligarchs is not currently on the agenda.

"I don't see this on these two persons happening anytime soon," Kallas emphasized.

At the same time, she said the EU continues to work to expand its restrictions and is preparing about 1,600 new additions to the sanctions lists. According to her, member states can propose new candidates, but all countries make the final decisions jointly.

Kallas also highlighted the new rules on sanction duration adopted two weeks ago. Under the new decisions, 2,998 entries on the sanctions lists will remain in effect for three years at once.

"So we don't have this decision of rollover every six months," Kallas explained.

As previously reported, the EU officially extended its individual sanctions but lifted restrictions on Russian oligarchs Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman. The decision was made under pressure from some EU member states.

Later, Euronews reported that all EU countries realized they had made a serious mistake by lifting sanctions against Usmanov and Fridman.
