Salmon is a common fish species for healthy and delicious dishes. But just one specific ingredient can help improve salmon seasoning to give the fish a more distinctive flavor, states Daily Express.

What to add to salmon to improve the flavor

Salmon is a great dish for dinner because, in addition to its health benefits, it is extremely easy to prepare with the right recipe. This fish tastes great when grilled, pan-fried, deep-fried, or baked in olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper.

However, there is a secret ingredient that will make salmon taste even better. Cooking expert Mayo Quinn of Simply Recipes explained that she bakes salmon fillets with salt and pepper and adds shiro (white) miso to them.

Shiro miso is a Japanese seasoning in the form of a paste made from fermented soybeans. The so-called "white" miso is not too salty but has a light floral aroma.

According to Mayo, regardless of whether the salmon is simply seasoned with salt and pepper or covered with a glaze, it is the shiro miso that gives the fish its unique flavor.

"I have been cooking this fish for dinner on weeknights for more than 20 years, and I never miss this ingredient. It is my secret weapon that turns this fatty fish into the main course of a weeknight dinner," said the chef.

According to Quinn, the salty and earthy flavor of miso enriches the dish's taste without masking the flavor of the fish and other ingredients.

How to bake salmon with miso paste

In order to cook six regular salmon fillets, Mayo prepares enough miso paste glaze. She uses the following ingredients:

  • shiro miso - 2 tbsp.
  • maple syrup - 2 tbsp.
  • soy sauce - 2 tbsp
  • garlic - 1-2 cloves of garlic
  • ground black pepper - 1/4 tsp.

Peel and grate the garlic or put it through a press. To prepare the sauce, simply mix the ingredients in a bowl. Thoroughly cover the fish fillet with the sauce and leave the salmon for about 10 minutes.

While the fish is marinating, preheat the oven to 220 degrees, and then bake the salmon until cooked, placing it on a wire rack or parchment-lined baking sheet.
