Ukrainian Defense Forces struck several important Russian targets on May 15 and during the night of May 16. The strikes hit both targets in Russia and facilities in temporarily occupied territories, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Oil refinery under strike

The General Staff confirmed that Ukrainian forces damaged the Ryazan oil refinery during the night of May 15.

"The results of strikes on the Ryazan oil refinery (Ryazan region, Russia) infrastructure on the night of May 15 have been clarified. Processing units AVT-3, AVT-4, AT-6, and a diesel fuel hydrodesulfurization unit were damaged," the report said.

The Ryazan refinery is one of the Russian largest oil processing facilities that plays a role in supplying fuel to the Russian military.

Other hits on Russian facilities

According to the General Staff statement, Ukraine records additional results achieved over the past 36 hours. In particular:

  • Ukrainian forces hit a Russian command post near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, as well as a UAV command post near the settlement of Hrafske, Donetsk region
  • Hangar with hostile military equipment was struck in Selydove of the Donetsk region
  • Logistics supply warehouse was hit in Baranykivka in the Luhansk region, and a repair unit in Pryvillia in the Kherson region
  • Concentrated Russian manpower was hit in Shakhtarsk, Mykhailivka, Yalta, and Selydove in the Donetsk region, in Liubymivka in the Zaporizhzhia region, and in several other settlements.

Russia under attacks

Earlier, on May 12 and during the night of May 13, Ukraine attacked the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in the settlement of Volna in the Krasnodar region, Russia. A fire broke out at the facility following the strike.

Tamanneftegaz is a major terminal near the Port of Taman on the Black Sea coast. It is used for the transshipment of oil, fuel oil, diesel, and liquefied gas. It also plays a role in supplying fuel to Russian forces.

Notably, Reuters reported in late August that two Rosneft-owned oil refineries in Russia — the Tuapse and Novokuibyshevsk facilities — had suspended operations following drone strikes.
