Rutte states that window of opportunity for peace in Ukraine opens: It will last for two weeks

A window of opportunity has opened for progress toward peace between Ukraine and Russia. Results can be achieved within the next two weeks, states NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in a comment to Anadolu.
"I think there is this window of opportunity this week, but also in the next 10 days, two weeks, to really bring the whole issue of Ukraine to a better place," Rutte emphasized.
According to him, progress can be achieved under the leadership of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as with the active involvement of the US government.
The Secretary General also stressed that Türkiye plays a significant role in resolving Russia's war against Ukraine.
Rutte had already spoken about a window of opportunity for progress toward peace between Ukraine and Russia yesterday, May 13, following a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Negotiations in Istanbul
Ukraine and Russia may hold their first negotiations in three years tomorrow, May 15, in Istanbul. It is still unclear who will specifically participate in these talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who may also take part in the dialogue tomorrow, hopes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Türkiye.
According to the Ukrainian president, Ukraine aims for results in such negotiations. The first such result could be an unconditional ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia for at least 30 days.
All the details about the potential negotiations between the two warring countries can be found in the RBC-Ukraine material.
