Russians used North Korean missile during Ukraine shelling on July 31 - Defense Express
On Wednesday, July 31, the Russian forces tried to hit the Kyiv region with a North Korean KN-23 ballistic missile. It did not reach the target, according to Defense Express.
According to the agency, the missile was headed towards Bila Tserkva but fell in the Kyiv region. The likely cause was its explosion in the air.
Journalists claim that debris with markings typically found on KN-23 missiles was discovered at the site of the missile's impact. This type of weapon had already been used by Russia for strikes on Ukraine earlier in 2024.
Defense Express writes that the last recorded use of KN-23 ballistic missiles by Russia for attacks on Ukraine was on February 27, 2024. There was a five-month pause before this incident.
Missile characteristics
According to the agency, the North Korean ballistic missiles used by Russia are equipped with a high-explosive warhead with a yield of up to 1,000 kilograms in TNT equivalent. The maximum range of the KN-23 is 650 km.
What happened before
It is worth noting that on March 14, Oleksandr Filchakov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, stated that the Russian forces had used about fifty KN-23/24 missiles, manufactured by North Korea, for strikes on Ukraine.
Filchakov highlighted the poor quality of North Korean missiles, noting that they sometimes explode in the air. He also mentioned that one such missile was used for a strike on the Kharkiv region.
