The Russian army is attempting to gain a foothold in villages near Pokrovsk and advance further. In this way, the Russians aim to encircle the city partially, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Viktor Trehubov, Spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational and strategic group of troops.

"There (near Pokrovsk - ed.) are a number of small settlements. There are Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Zelene, Promin, Novyi trud, etc. The Russians are trying to capture every house there and move on," Trehubov said.

Ukrainian military noted that the Russians are not directly advancing on Pokrovsk itself. However, they are trying to partially encircle the city and possibly reach the forest belt near the highway, where part of the city's supplies are delivered.

"I wouldn't say they have succeeded at this point, but they are trying very hard and have significant resources, primarily in manpower, equipment, and logistics," Trehubov added.

Situation on Pokrovsk axis

As previously reported, Russia continues concentrating forces for attacks in the Pokrovsk direction. On this front section, Ukrainian defenders have stopped 77 offensive actions by the enemy.

Earlier, Trehubov reported that the enemy wants to encircle the city but haven't succeeded in their attempts.

Meanwhile, the American Institute for the Study of War noted that encircling Pokrovsk is one of Russia's key operational objectives.
