Russia unsuccessfully attempting to encircle Pokrovsk
Russian forces are attempting to advance in small groups around Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. However, they are unable to pose a real threat to the city, according to Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group of Troops.
"The Pokrovsk direction has been one of the hottest spots for the past four weeks, if not longer. So yes, it is intense there. But they (the Russians – ed.) are not currently achieving the kind of success that would allow them to directly threaten the city of Pokrovsk itself," Trehubov said.
According to him, the Russians have failed to encircle the city, although they continue to try to advance.
"When we talk about large movements, about something that could actually pose a threat to the city in the near future, we can't say that right now. However, they are trying in one way or another to bypass, to latch onto individual houses in separate settlements. It is very difficult to list all the settlements in which they are attempting offensive actions because the list is quite long," the spokesperson added.
Battle for Pokrovsk
Notably, for the past several months, Russian forces have been trying to breach the defenses in the Pokrovsk direction. This area has been one of the most challenging sections of the front.
As spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group of Troops, Viktor Trehubov, explained, the Russians are trying to weaken Ukrainian logistics in Pokrovsk. However, it is currently unlikely that they will be able to force the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the city. The enemy may attempt to pressure Ukrainian forces to withdraw from Pokrovsk, but this seems to be a difficult task.
