Russians launched drones and missiles at Ukraine overnight: Air defense's operation report
In the early hours of August 22, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine, deploying 10 Shahed drones from the Kursk region, according to the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk.
Most of the drones were aimed at the positions of Ukraine's Defense Forces in the frontline areas of the Kharkiv region.
Additionally, the enemy used Kh-31P anti-radar missiles from the airspace over the Black Sea and two "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles from the Belgorod region and Crimea.
Ukrainian air defense forces shot down two strike drones, while two others crashed on their own. Thanks to active countermeasures, the majority of the enemy's missiles failed to reach their targets.
According to preliminary reports, casualties and significant destruction were avoided.
Russian airstrikes
Russian forces continue to carry out almost daily airstrikes on Ukrainian towns and cities. They often employ Iranian-made kamikaze drones, known as Shahed (referred to in the Russian military as Geran), as well as missiles and aerial bombs.
Last night, the occupiers launched 72 aerial targets at Ukraine. Ukrainian Air Defense Forces successfully shot down 51 of them, including one guided Kh-59/Kh-69 missile and 50 Shahed strike drones across 14 regions.
Moreover, 16 Russian drones were disabled through the use of electronic countermeasures by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. One drone entered Belarusian territory, while another returned to Russia's Belgorod region.
