Russia strikes Ukraine with 72 drones and missiles overnight: Air defense's work reported
On the night of August 21, the Russian occupiers carried out a massive air strike against Ukraine, using various types of weapons, according to Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russia launched 2 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles were launched from the territory of the Voronezh region of Russia, and a Kh-59/Kh-69 guided missile was launched from the airspace of the Kursk region. Additionally, 69 Shaheds strike aircraft were sent from the areas of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Yeysk, and Kursk.
In total, the Ukrainian Air Force detected and tracked 72 Russian air targets. The air attack was repelled by the aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As a result of the air battle, 51 Russian air targets were shot down: one Kh-59/Kh-69 guided missile and 50 Shahed drones in different regions. In particular, in Khmelnytskyi, Poltava, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Donetsk, Kirovohrad, Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
In addition, 16 Russian drones were lost due to electronic countermeasures.
In addition, the Ukrainian military spotted a Russian drone crossing the state border with the Republic of Belarus in the Chernihiv region. One of the Russian drones returned to the Belgorod region.
As of 11:15 a.m., a Russian drone is still in the airspace over the Cherkasy region, and hostilities continue.
