Russians actively digging trenches on Crimean coast using conscripts
Russian forces are intensively fortifying the coastline near Yevpatoria, anticipating a strike by Ukrainian Defense Forces. Due to personnel shortages, conscripts are being deployed for the fortification efforts, the partisan group Atesh reports.
"Atesh agents are recording the continuous process of strengthening the coastline with trenches, firing points, and strong points. The number of personnel involved has been steadily increasing," the statement says.
According to the partisans, with most Crimean-based Russian troops deployed to the front lines, including regions like Kursk, conscripts are now assigned to work and stand guard at these fortifications.
"Each day, fewer Russian servicemen are stationed in Crimea. The occupiers understand that a strike by Ukrainian forces is inevitable and approaching," Atesh explains in the message.
Situation in Crimea
Russian forces occupied Crimea in 2014, turning it into a substantial military base with a land corridor to Russia via the illegally constructed Crimean Bridge.
Ukrainian Defense Forces have twice struck the Crimean Bridge – first on October 8, 2022, and again on July 17, 2023. According to The Guardian, Ukraine's defense intelligence is preparing a third strike on the Crimean Bridge.
Fearing a large-scale attack on Crimea, Russian forces have been constructing defensive structures across the peninsula. In July, partisans reported a continuous increase in the number of enemy defensive positions along the coast of Crimea. There are also rumors among Russians about the so-called "shock fist" that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been allegedly preparing.
