Fragments of an unknown missile have been discovered in Poland, likely belonging to an air defense system that repelled an attack by unidentified drones in the autumn of last year, according to Polish Radio.

A missile fragment was found in the village of Jarosławiec in the Zamość County of the Lublin Voivodeship. The owner of the land plot immediately contacted law enforcement.

An investigative team from the Military Police unit in Lublin arrived at the scene. According to the spokesperson for the unit, Major Damian Stanula, the main task of law enforcement is to thoroughly examine the circumstances of the incident.

According to him, specialists are inspecting the object itself and the area where it was found, examining the surrounding territory to determine whether other similar fragments are present, and interviewing witnesses. The regional prosecutor’s office has also been informed about the incident, including the department dealing with military cases.

According to preliminary data, the object found is a small fragment of a missile used by the Polish Air Force to counter Russian drones that violated the country's airspace on the night of September 9–10, 2025.

Russian drones in Poland

It should be recalled that on the night of September 10, about 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace. Air defense forces shot down four drones, while the rest either crashed or were found in 11 locations, including one on a military base.

According to Polish media, some of the unidentified drones may have been directed at a NATO base in Poland.

On September 13, NATO launched Operation Eastern Sentry in Poland to strengthen the defense of Europe's eastern flank in response to the intrusion of Russian drones into Polish airspace.
