Russian troops strike evacuation vehicle in Vovchansk: Police officer's death reported
Russian troops shelled a car of law enforcement officers in Vovchansk, who were planning to evacuate civilians, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko.
As a result of the strike, one police officer was killed and another was injured.
"The occupiers struck the evacuation vehicle with an FPV drone. At that moment, there were two police officers in the vehicle who were on their way to rescue civilians," Klymenko said.
The Minister of Internal Affairs added that the enemy constantly uses drones, putting law enforcement evacuation groups at constant risk.
"But the police continue to evacuate people from under fire. They save lives despite the risks to their own lives and health. This self-sacrifice must always be remembered," the Minister added.
Situation in Vovchansk
In early May, Russian troops launched an offensive in the Kharkiv region. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the fiercest battles are taking place in the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Kurakhiv directions.
According to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, there are nearly a hundred civilians in Vovchansk, where the enemy has entered. These civilians are not being allowed to evacuate.
