A Russian Su-30 fighter jet crashed, killing the crew, the Russian Defense Ministry reported, according to TASS.

"Today, around 07:00 p.m. in the Republic of Karelia, a Su-30 aircraft crashed during a scheduled training flight. The plane went down in an uninhabited area. The flight was conducted without ammunition. The crew was killed," the Ministry said.

Karelia Governor Artur Parfenchikov said the incident occurred in the Prionezhsky district.

Emergency services have been dispatched to the crash site.

About the Su-30

The Su-30 is a two-seat, multirole fighter developed from the Su-27 platform. It has two turbojet engines and is designed for air superiority, escort missions, strikes on ground and naval targets, as well as radar surveillance.

Various Su-30 modifications, including export versions and specialized models like the Su-30MKI, Su-30MKK, and Su-30SM, differ in equipment, from radars and avionics to canards and engines, affecting maneuverability, range, and weapons load.

Some versions carry air-to-air and air-to-surface guided weapons, with payloads reaching several thousand kilograms.

Earlier, in early October, an Antonov An-2 plane crashed in Russia’s Krasnodar region near a military base in the Yermakovsky district.

Reports indicated that two Russians might have been on board, though it was unclear whether they were civilians or military personnel.

The Krasnodar Emergency Ministry confirmed the crash occurred 40 kilometers from the settlement of Tanizebey.
