The latest Russian strikes on Ukraine damaged 28 power substations. Russian forces also targeted other energy facilities, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The president held a conference call to discuss the situation in Ukraine's regions following the latest Russian strikes.

"Unfortunately, 28 substations and other critical energy facilities were hit. Restoration work is underway everywhere, and electricity is gradually being restored to people. I am grateful to every repair crew and everyone working for energy companies," he said.

According to Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi reported on preparations of infrastructure for the heating season. Key areas requiring attention were identified.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Presidential Office team were given urgent tasks to contact partners who could strengthen Ukraine's air defenses.

"There are political agreements that have not been implemented at the working level. There are also delays in certain types of vital supplies at the level of the US Department of War. This evening, we will hold an additional meeting to review the results of all the contacts that must take place throughout the day. I expect concrete results," he emphasized.

Russian strikes on energy infrastructure

On October 18 and overnight into October 19, Russian forces launched a series of attacks on Ukraine. Energy facilities were among the main targets.

The strikes caused emergency power outages in 11 regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa regions.

Russian forces also launched missile strikes on Kyiv. One missile hit near the Chernihivska metro station, forcing it to suspend operations indefinitely.
