The enemy continued attacking Kryvyi Rih the day before. As a result of a missile strike, mines were left without electricity, and at one of them, workers became trapped underground, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Rescuers reported that seven miners had to be evacuated from underground because the mine’s lift was not working.
“On January 8, as a result of a missile strike on the city, several districts were left without power, including mines where people were working at the time. At one of the mines, seven workers remained underground at depths of –1,490 meters and –940 meters,” the State Emergency Service wrote.
As a result, specialists had to be brought in to help the miners get back to the surface.
“Mine rescue workers from the Service's State Paramilitary Mine Rescue Service, together with specialists from the enterprise, used a generator, restarted the hoisting mechanism, and ensured the descent of the mine cage. After more than six hours of work, all workers were brought back to the surface,” the rescuers added.
According to them, all evacuated mine workers are safe and unharmed.
